UI Design for New Plan Screen
The UI design being used for the New Plan screen seems to dynamically change size, repositioning objects as if it was a portal. I run a Dell S3222HG Monitor - 32-inch 165Hz Full HD (1920 x 1080) alongside two ASUS VG278HV 27" Full HD 1920x1080 monitors, and the way the screen is presented was confusing. I had to reduce the Chrome window to 1023×911 in order to show all the elements in a stacked flow. A wider browser window made the objects dynamically become side by side. So much is being placed on the screen, and this is not a clean presentation when dynamically altered by window width. The critically important things (such as exposure qty, filter, exposure time and binning was all far below what was easily seen regardless of window width, at the very bottom of the window. I had to scroll down to see it. This information should ideally be on the right side of the screen or at the top of the screen because we’re planning the actions in the New Plan. The target image could be lower and smaller, and the altitude & sky track graphs could be smaller and should always be positioned below all the exposure details. As currently designed, the screen took me far longer to figure out than I expected. I’m probably biased towards the iTelescope Deep Sky Objects Imaging & Planning screen layout, but it seems more logical to follow that simple flow as opposed to jumping around on a screen while having to simultaneously scroll up and down to see what I need while planning a session.
